Studying printmaking allowed me to explore various media, to work dimensionally, and to stretch my creative wings.
Create a book using letterpress with a minimum of 10 pages.
For this project, I drew illustrations and went on to create my own polymer plates to be printed on a letterpress, using two colors.
An accordion style book with a debossed design on the cover.
Create a screen printed design that expresses the concept of transformation.
I explored geometric forms, including models of shapes that could be constructed, transforming from flat shapes to dimensional ones. I pushed the concept further by creating textures using pentagons inspired by a model template I found.
Starting with a foldable geometric template, I silkscreened a design composed of pentagons with the intent of building the model. The flat design printed as a gradation of color on a solid orange sheet was so pleasing, I stopped there.
Create a screen printed design that expresses the concept of transformation.
I built paper prototypes to select geometric shapes that would be well suited to be printed on. To contrast with the bold shapes, I experimented with color and texture to see how they might transform the appearance of the geometric models.
Building on the idea of geometric shapes, models were constructed into three-dimensional shapes that were then transformed into a modular mobile design, allowing the configuration of shapes for further transformation.
